List of Departments

Surgery

In this Department, we aim to provide modern medical treatment and highly advanced medical care to fulfill our responsibilities as the core hospital in the region. Given that cancer has become the leading cause of death in recent years, we dedicate ourselves to cancer surgeries to respond to local needs. Moreover, we put our effort toward the latest diagnostic technique and clinical treatment equipment that are indispensable for modern medical treatment and highly advanced medical care.
We work on a 24-hour medical care system and respond to emergency hospitalizations. We keep close contact with the other Departments to make full use of the advantage as a general hospital. Physicians in charge of surgical specialties (e.g., gastrointestinal, mammary gland, tumor, endoscopic, vascular, etc.) respond to cases with complications in, for example, heart, respiratory organs, and kidney.

Vascular Surgery

As we age, we may suffer from lifestyle diseases, such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, and obesity. There is also a risk of developing other various diseases from the lifestyle ones. Among them, early detection of and early treatment for blood vessel diseases, in particular, is considered desirable, as these diseases may have a direct threat to life or deteriorate one’s quality of life.
In this Department, we assess comprehensively based on not only the examination results but also the general status of the patient. We endeavor to provide a suitable treatment for each patient to improve his/her quality of life.
We select proactively minimally invasive therapies, imposing “less burden on the patient’s body,” given that the patients in vascular surgery are often in advanced age.

Cardiovascular Internal Medicine

In the Department of Cardiovascular Internal Medicine, we perform medical care for circulatory organs in general (e.g., ischemic heart disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, arrhythmia, hypertension, etc.), as the central Department in community health care. We also diagnose and treat vascular diseases (e.g., aortic and peripheral vascular diseases) in conjunction with the Department of Vascular Surgery. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) can be performed in cases in which internal therapy is required for ischemic heart disease.
We also closely cooperate with neighboring medical institutions. We take the central role in regional cardiovascular care, for example, by introducing patients who need surgical treatment (e.g., coronary artery bypass, valvular disease, and thoracic aortic surgeries) to tertiary medical institutions.

Orthopedic Surgery

In the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, we treat motor system diseases that manifest in bones, muscles, and nerves.
We select optimal treatments from wide range of alternatives including conservative therapies and surgeries upon diagnosis by utilizing the latest medical equipment, such as multi-slice CT (MPR and 3D-CT), MRI (1.5 and 3T MRIs), and ultrasonic diagnostic tools, in addition to simple x-rays.
We select a surgical method that is less invasive and enables early social rehabilitation for the patient.

Cranial Nerve Internal Medicine

Cranial nerve internal medicine may sound unfamiliar. In this Department, we provide neurosurgical treatments, except for surgeries. Neurosurgery is a medical specialty that provides proactively comprehensive treatments (including prevention, diagnoses, and surgeries) and rehabilitation, among others, for diseases involving all nervous systems (including brain, spinal cords, and peripheral nerves), as well as bones, muscles, and blood vessels. Targeted diseases include: strokes that are considered as a national affliction; emergency diseases, such as head injuries; brain tumors; and diseases manifesting in spines, spinal cords, and peripheral nerves. We provide, among others, prevention, diagnoses, internal therapy, and rehabilitation, aside from neurosurgical operations.

Neurosurgery

In this Department, we treat neurosurgical diseases in general. Target diseases include: cerebrovascular disorders (e.g., subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral infarction, etc.), head injuries (e.g., cerebral contusion, skull fracture, subdural hematoma, etc.), and infectious diseases (e.g., meningitis, encephalitis, etc.).
In April 2017, general neurosurgical operations became available in our Department. We now perform proactively intracerebral endovascular treatment (using catheters), which we did not perform previously. Target diseases include ruptured/unruptured cerebral aneurysms and cervical/intracranial vascular stenosis. Moreover, craniotomies under general anesthesia became possible for subarachnoid hemorrhage (ruptured/unruptured cerebral aneurysms), cerebral hemorrhage, and other traumatic diseases in this Department.

Mammary Gland Surgery

This Department was established in spring of 2015 from the viewpoint that it is necessary to provide a specialized medical treatment as an independent entity, given the rise in the number of outpatients in the mammary gland surgery domain.
We provide highly accurate and detailed medical examinations and medical care for breast cancers, by adhering to the latest guidelines, and a wide range of peripheral diseases. We collaborate with the Department of Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery, responding to the expansion of choices in cosmetics, such as breast formation.
Outpatient clinic is open every weekday to shorten patients' waiting time. We further improve our care by sharing related information, such as products for breast cancer survivors, care for affected limbs, and counseling for hereditary breast cancers.

Endoscopic Internal Medicine

In this Department, we perform upper endoscopy (gastroscopy) and lower endoscopy (colonoscopy) as a standard examination every day. We also respond to emergency examinations at any time. Endoscopic examinations can be performed by utilizing stabilizer agents upon patient request.
It is possible to practice various endoscopic examinations. We perform endoscopic hemostasis for bleeding from the esophagus, stomach, and large intestine. We also provide resection of polyps and tumors (including early-stage cancers). We proactively treat early cancer by performing endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) as well as normal endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). In addition, we perform lithotripsy and stent insertion by utilizing biliary pancreatic endoscopy for biliary stones and biliary stenosis caused by tumors.

Pediatrics

In this Department, we provide care in pediatric internal medicine in general. We serve as "primary-care physicians who admit inpatients, if necessary” and “hospital pediatrics to backup private practitioners." We have focused particularly on early treatment of bronchial asthma.
In 2016, the inpatient number in this Department was 459. There were 232 inpatients being treated for respiratory infections (pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, bronchitis, and acute bronchiolitis), followed by 49 and 39 inpatients being treated for acute gastroenteritis and bronchial asthma, respectively. Additionally, there were also inpatients being treated for Kawasaki Disease (8), influenza (13), and allergic purpura (5).
Since April 2017, we have been treating children in general domains, including surgeries, thanks to an addition of a pediatric surgery specialist to our Department.
All of the Department members are doing their best to become the "Pediatrics Department where people can consult comfortably with anything regarding children."

Internal Medicine

This Department consists of general and specialized internal medicine (e.g., cardiology internal medicine, diabetes medicine, hematology, respiratory medicine, liver internal medicine, allergy collagenosis internal medicine, etc.).
In general internal medicine, we provide a wide range of medical care for lifestyle diseases (e.g., hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, hyperuricemia, etc.), chronic, and other diseases.
Our principle is to examine and treat all domains of internal medicine. We perform comprehensive diagnosis and provide treatments for patients with multiple diseases, or those who cannot assess to which medical domain their disease belongs, upon cooperation with the corresponding Departments.

Rehabilitation

In this Department, our aim is to prevent patients from becoming bedridden by improving their activities of daily living (ADL) by initiating rehabilitation from a relatively early stage after acute treatment. We also aim for patients to return home as much as possible. We form a dedicated team, led by a full-time department physician and a neurosurgeon, consisting of nurses, physiotherapists (PTs), occupational therapists (OTs), speech therapists (STs), pharmacists, managerial dietitians, and medical social workers/counselors. The team creates a rehabilitation program for each patient, and executes efficiently and intensively, within a prescribed period, based upon the program. We constantly develop ourselves in orthopedic diseases by regularly holding grand rounds with orthopedic surgeons, study sessions, and review meetings for each discipline. We also present at related workshops and national conferences.

Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery

The role of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery is to restore the cosmetic aspects and function of tissue deformity and loss due to, among others, trauma, tumor resection, and congenital anomalies, which contributes to the improvement of the quality of life. In particular, deformation and scarring of the part visible to the patient can be a burden on the mind and interfere with social life. From this viewpoint, we recognize cosmetic aspects as a social dysfunction and provide therapies according to each patient’s need as much as possible.
